Lenten Worship

All In: Journey to the Cross

Come and be blessed. Immanuel’s Lenten Wednesday worship services.

Wednesdays in Lent (Through April 10)

Noon Worship
Noon Wednesday worship will include contemplative Taize music and Lectio Divina, a meditative, reflective practice of reading bible passages. Worship will be followed by a simple lunch.

6:15 p.m. Table Talk
We will continue “Table Talk” this year around the Lenten theme, All-In: Journey to the Cross, with the focus each week corresponding to the weekly worship focus (see below).  Come join us after Wednesday Café for coffee, devotions, and informal small group conversation. All are welcome!

7 p.m. Wednesday Worship
Our evening worship will continue to develop our All In: Journey to the cross theme. Jesus journeyed to the cross because of his great love and care for others, for us. Our love and care for others is central to our journey of faith. Each week our Lenten worship will help us grow in how we love and care for others as we raise up particular faith friend skills.

Lenten Service Project

Personal Care Kits
We’ll support the work of Lutheran World Relief as we assemble Personal Care Kits for families in need around the world. Simple items – a soap, a towel, a toothbrush – can offer hope for families coping with war, poverty and disaster.

What to Include (All items should be new and in good condition):

Wrap all the items in the towel and tie securely with ribbons or yarn. See the Personal Care Kit assembly instructions. Bring completed Care Kits to Immanuel by Easter!

Holy Week

Palm Sunday, April 14
8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.

Maundy Thursday, April 18
7 p.m. with Holy Communion and music by Servant Song.

Prayer Vigil
As faithful friends, we sit quietly in the Sanctuary, contemplating his great compassion and love for us.  We might pray silently, read scripture or meditate at the prayer stations provided.

Campfire Vigil
8 p.m., Maundy Thursday - 7 p.m. Good Friday
As Jesus prayed in the garden called Gethsemane shortly before his arrest, he asked his disciples to keep vigil with him, to stay awake and support him in his hour of need.  True to our fallible nature, Peter, James and John were asleep in no time.  In the centuries since, Christian disciples around the world have marked this night by staying awake, watching and praying with Jesus in the hours leading up to his crucifixion and death.
Families (children, youth and adults) and adults (young adults through seniors), can participate.

Good Friday, April 19, 7 p.m.
In Calvary’s Shadow: A Tenebrae Service
Led by our Reformation Choir and chamber orchestra, In Calvary’s Shadow is a deeply moving service of penitence and forgiveness. It will invite the faithful to experience Jesus’ journey from betrayal to crucifixion with a tightly woven tapestry of dramatic scripture readings, vocal solos, congregational singing and arrangements of spiritual and gospel hymns as arranged by composer Victor C. Johnson.

No Saturday evening worship.
