Lutheran World Relief
Founded by Lutherans in the United States at the end of World War II, grounded in Lutheran theology and building on decades of experience, Lutheran World Relief tackles global poverty by helping people adapt to the challenges that threaten their livelihoods and well-being. LWR works with people of all races, religions, and nationalities to provide aid in emergencies and help families restore their lives.
Over the years Immanuel has worked in partnership with LWR in a number of ways including:
- Lenten Care Kit drives
- Quilt making (the Immanuel Piecemakers have made thousands of quilts over the years that have been sent all across the globe)
- Yearly Campaigns to support the ever-changing needs of communities supported by LWR.
Matching Gift Campaign - May 2024
Supporting Mobile Medical Clinics in Ukraine
An anonymous member has again offered a matching gift up to $5,000 during the month of May for Lutheran World Relief! This year funds will benefits mobile medical clinics. A gift of $5,000 supports fuel and supplies as they care for those unable to evacuate. CHALLENGE: How many weeks can we support?
Gifts for LWR can be made by placing in the offering plate (indicate in the check memo 'LWR match') or online (select the LWR block). We look forward to hearing more from LWR when they are here in worship on May 12th!
What can your donation do?
- $5000—sponsors the a mobile health clinic for two weeks (covers all gas to keep it going)
- $700--- sponsor an art therapy session for 10 people (this gift of love helps the healing process for women and children who have experienced violence and psychological trauma.)
- $350—provides a laundry machine that can be used for families forced to flee their homes with very few possessions and are trying to put their lives back together
- $80 – provides a microwave or small refrigerator for families to ensure that their meals can be safely prepared (this is one of the most requested items for families in need)
- $70---covers the cost of a tablet for a student so that they can continue to learn remotely
- $43—covers basic sanitation materials and cleaning supplies for a family to help keep them safe and cared for when they need it most
